The TrenchTown Reading Centre TRC - Community Library Reading Rm & Education Centre - located at Lower First Street. The Centre is a Community Development Initiative in Trench Town part of Kingston's ghetto enclave. First opened in December 1993- a non-profit secular community based and developed initiative - from the roots up. created from the roots up.. from the desire to find a path forward out of the cycle of violence and lack of opportunity. To exchange violence for the power of reasoning. It is unique - a first of its kind in a community polarized by persistent poverty and local tribal politics. Fostering development and engaging impressionable minds of all ages towards positive transformation. Our concept is to advance the welfare of community stakeholders. The Centre was developed to encourage a broad range of educational activities and provide a place for community activities. Focusing on Knowledge - literacy education life skills access to information & the exchange of ideas - to create a foundation for personal familial and community well-being and growth. 2005- totlaly renovated expanded and Book collection completely renewed. Adjacent building finished Community Classroo Preformance & Meeting space. Programs back in action and growing in kind & scope wever since. Summer Schools & Community Spelling Bees began in 2008 Managed Directed and funding thorugh Friends of the TrenchTown Reading Centre. DIrector
