Founded in 1962 the Harold K.L. Castle Foundation works to build resources for Hawaii's future. Specifically our mission as a grant maker is to support programs that close the achievement gap in public education so that all of Hawaii's children regardless of their socioeconomic background have access to and benefit from high-quality education from pre-kindergarten through 12th grade that prepares them for a successful future as well as fund programs that restore Hawaii's nearshore marine life populations so that future generations can benefit and learn from this rich natural resource. We also award grants for programs that build on the strengths of Windward Oahu communities through investments that support the region's rich cultural legacy its youth and families and its natural resources as well as programs that invest in a limited number of other unforeseen but compelling opportunities to make a big difference in Hawaii's future.Only public schools and nonprofit organizations serving Hawaii with Internal Revenue Code Sections 501c3 and 509a public charity status are eligible. Organizations must be in good standing with the IRS. Individuals and businesses are not eligible. Also ineligible are requests that include ongoing operating expenses vehicles computers endowments annual fund drives sponsorships special events dinners galas organizations based outside of Hawaii and projects taking place outside Hawaii that do not benefit Hawaii.All prospective grant applicants must submit an Online Inquiry Form which is the first step in requesting funds from the foundation. You will need your organization's 501c3 Tax ID number to get started. Online inquiry forms will be reviewed by foundation staff on a rolling basis so they may be submitted at any time during the year from the Foundations website at httpwww.castlefoundation.orginquire-online.htm
