Federato

What it does

Federato is the AI-native underwriting platform helping insurance carriers make faster, smarter decisions in an increasingly complex world. By delivering real-time insights across every underwriting decision, Federato brings speed, precision, and better outcomes to organizations and the communities they serve. We first met Will and William at Pear's GSB competition and welcomed them into PearX S20. We believed in their vision to bring AI into how insurance companies manage risk—from everyday exposures to the emerging dynamics created by climate change. Their approach was novel: a federated learning system (hence the name) that would let carriers benefit from their own data alongside others', safely and securely. The vision made sense. The challenge was getting insurance companies to adopt it. We worked with the team to reframe their approach as operational underwriting software— ontinuously monitoring risk at every decision, rather than a few times a year. They coined the term "Risk Ops," and we worked closely with them to articulate that vision at Demo Day. Between seed and Series A, we partnered with Will and William on the harder parts of company building—product, culture, and navigating long enterprise sales cycles to close their first customers. When it was time to raise, we prepped them through our Series A Bootcamp for a successful round.
