What it does

Advanced Softmaterials Inc. was established based on the basic umbrella patent of the Slide-Ring Material, the first-ever material with movable crosslinks. Our aim is to further develop this highly-advanced and environmentally-sound material to apply it to a wide range of raw materials and products. Applications include sandblast abrasive media, coating for adjusting vibration properties, and lightweight & silent dielectric actuators. Slide-Ring Material is basically formed with a nanosize “necklace” made from molecules. This is referred to as “polyrotaxane” and is comprised of three materials: the linear polymer “polyethyleneglycol (PEG)”, the cyclic molecule “cyclodextrin (CD)” and the stopper molecule “adamantane”. Polyrotaxane was first composed at the laboratory of Prof. Akira Harada at Osaka University in 1990. In the field of chemistry, the complex of molecules like polyrotaxane is called a “supermolecule”.
