Verify your domain - claim your MarkosWeb profile

Every domain in this directory has a profile built from measurements. If the domain is yours, you can prove it in about two minutes and take ownership of the record.

What verification gets you

How to verify (pick ONE)

Open markosweb.com/verify/, enter your domain, and you get a personal token. Then either:

  1. DNS TXT record (recommended) - add a TXT record with markosweb-verify={your token} on your domain. Works even if you cannot edit the site.
  2. Meta tag - add <meta name="markosweb-verify" content="{your token}"> to your homepage's <head>.
  3. Well-known file - serve the token at https://yourdomain.com/.well-known/markosweb-verify.txt.

Press "Check verification now" - we look for the token via DNS-over-HTTPS and on your live pages. No account, no email, nothing to install.

Keep the token in place afterwards. Ownership is re-checked periodically, and every profile edit re-proves control - so a domain that changes hands cannot keep the old owner's claims.

Frequently asked

Does verifying improve my readiness score?
No. The score is a measured fraction of concrete checks and cannot be bought or boosted by verification. Verification adds the Verified mark, your own facts (shown with provenance), and makes the profile eligible for indexing - the measurements stay untouched.
What does verification cost?
Nothing. Verification is free. Scores can be improved by fixing your site, never bought.
Do I have to display the badge or link to MarkosWeb?
No. The badge is optional and is never a condition for verification, for your profile, or for anything else on this site. If you do embed it, the snippet we give you links with rel="nofollow" by design.
Why does my verified profile link to my homepage?
Unverified profiles mention the domain as plain text. Verification is our editorial vetting step: once a real owner has proven control and confirmed the record, the profile earns one link to the site it describes - the same policy directories like Crunchbase or Google Business Profile follow.
How long does verification last?
Keep the DNS record, meta tag or file in place: ownership is re-checked periodically, and profile edits re-prove control on every save. Remove the token and the verification will lapse at the next re-check.
Can I verify a domain I do not own?
No. All three methods require control of the domain itself (its DNS zone or its web root). Tokens are domain-specific, so a token for one domain proves nothing about another.
